UCL is investing over £200m in UCL East as part of a £1.2bn programme to expand and upgrade its facilities, including its historic Bloomsbury campus.
The proposed development will be delivered in two phases, between 2018 and 2034. Phase 1 (Marshgate Plot 1 and Pool Street West) is likely to be completed and occupied by 2020. Construction of phase 2 (Marshgate Plots 2, 3 and 4; and Pool Street East) will start in 2030
The first phase of UCL East is expected to accommodate approximately 3,000 students and 625 staff, including academics and researchers.
The Marshgate building project will serve as the centre for the UCL East academic vision – bringing together Experiment, Arts, Society & Technology.
A Stanton Williams-led team has won the design contract for Marshgate, a 340,000 sq ft academic facility, located south of the ArcelorMittal Orbit.
The proposed development comprises of a 9-floor academic block with 2 floors of rooftop plant and a partial basement.
The main building has a double height atrium with escalators leading to the 2nd floor, designed as the main academic arrival point.
