The Enquirer understands that the JVs are finalising their prices for approval by the client under a process known as the Gateway 4 submission.
The contract awards were made last summer to construct the route between London and Birmingham.
HS2 and the government put a cost estimate of £6.6bn on building bridges, tunnels, embankments and viaducts for the route.
A project source said: “The Gateway 4 submissions are being put together at the moment which are the prices the joint ventures believe it can be built for.”
The joint ventures are:
- SCS JV (Skanska, Costain, STRABAG)
- Align JV (Bouygues, VolkerFitzpatrick, Sir Robert McAlpine)
- CEK JV (Eiffage, Kier)
- BBV JV (Balfour Beatty Group, VINCI)
