The University of Birmingham will hold a bidders day next month for the £40m first phase of its planned new molecular sciences building.

The new hub building will provide a focal point for the University’s core research capabilities in chemical, environmental and bio-molecular sciences, and provide improved facilities for academics and post-graduate students.

Phase 1 and 2 molecular sciences block

Located at the old Munrow Sports Centre site, bounded by the Worcester and Birmingham Canal and University Road West, it will be delivered in two phases. Phase one is scheduled for 2019/2020 while phase two will start in 2023/24.

The industry day will take place 6 December.

Phase one is expected to cost around £40m to build

Procurement chiefs plan to invite five firms to bid for the first phase of the two-stage bid process.

Bid documents will be available from the website with expressions of interest due in by 4 January 2019.
