Awarded for services to building and civil engineering, Wood established Tolent Construction in 1983 after working for Wimpey and Balfour Beatty.

He is one of a handful of business professionals to win recognition for their service to the industry.

Architect John Pawson also became a CBE for services to design and architecture.

Among the other awards, Abolade Abisogun, chartered quantity surveyor and founder of Urbanist, was made an OBE for services to diversity and young people in construction.

Dr Jennifer Schooling, director of the Centre for Smart Infrastructure and Construction at the University of Cambridge also gained an OBE.

In the transport sector Leon Daniels, TfL managing director for surface transport, and Stephen Fidler, Department for Transport deputy director, road investment strategy client, received OBEs.

Chris Harrop, group marketing director of hard landscaping products manufacturer Marshalls, was made an OBE  for services to the prevention of modern slavery and exploitation.

Stefanie Stead, regional chair of Yorkshire and Humber Construction Industry Council and principal at architect Stead & Co received an MBE.
