Developer Rockwell gave the go-ahead to start foundation work on the 30-storey building this week after striking a £106m investment deal with Aviva Investors to fund the delivery of a 400-bed Premier Inn hotel adjacent to Westferry DLR station.
The £172m project, which also includes 66 flats will be built in Limehouse at 82 West India Dock Road in East London.
Designed by architects Simpson Haugh & Partners, the project will take the form of two buildings on a shared podium with the apartments distinguished with a floor to floor fully glazed facade and the hotel clad with brick-clad precast panels.
The slenderness of the tower enables a substantial amount of public realm to be given back at the ground floor.
