Designed by dn-a architects, the two new buildings will offer 200,000sq ft of prime city centre office space to the north of City Hall

L&G will invest £100m into building the 112,660sq ft and 94,991sq ft ofice blocks which will rise to six and five floors respsctively.

If planning is approved, work is set to begin on the first of the two buildings in early 2021 and it will open its doors by summer 2022.

Both buildings will target BREAAM excellence standards.

The developments are part of a Sunderland City Council-led vision to deliver more than 1m sq ft of office space across the Riverside Sunderland development, creating workspaces for up to 10,000 people.

Stuart Mclarty, CEO at dn-a architects, said: “These compelling new buildings will set an exemplar standard for Sunderland and the North East.  They have been concieved with the wellbeing of the user and the environment at the core of the design and will deliver ‘zero carbon in use’, with an all electric building, concept.”

Plans for the development of both buildings will go before Sunderland City Council’s planning committee before the end of the year.

James Silver, Managing Director at Landid, added: “Our plans for these buildings complement the new sites that are springing up on Riverside Sunderland, as well as older buildings in the heart of the city.  They’re both ambitious and sympathetic and we’re thrilled to be moving forward with them.”
