North Somerset Council has awarded Alun Griffiths the design and build contract for the Banwell Bypass near Weston Super Mare.

The £38m project will also include flood mitigation works and improvements to Junction 21 of the M5.

Design work to help finalise the bypass route can now get underway with a view to completing the project by 2024.

A new road will support the development of future housing sites to help meet the demand for new homes over the next 15 years.

It is being funded by the Government housing infrastructure fund as part of the wider plan for housing at Weston villages and a major secondary school for the area.

The road will run from the Summer Lane junction on the A371 to the A368 Towerhead Road.
