Bathroom pod specialist Walker Modular has won the latest major package from Berkeley Group at its 58-storey Harcourt Gardens luxury residential tower at South Quay Plaza in London’s Docklands.

Walker Modular will design, manufacture and supply more than 600 high-end bathroom pods to the Foster + Partners designed tower in a deal thought to be worth around £5.5m

Walker Modular Managing director Shane Walker said: “It is going to be a phenomenal building and it is a real honour to be working on a project like this with Berkeley Group.

“We have continued with our capital expenditure plans in the UK to ensure we remain the market leader in the offsite construction space.

“The bathroom pod is a vital area of the building floorplate. Walker Modular possess both the expertise and strength to ensure a flawless delivery. We give our clients peace of mind by de-risking the build process in these difficult times.”

Walker Modular has set up a dedicated production line for Berkeley Group at its recently completed fourth purpose-built steel factory in Hull to produce the high-end pods.

Installation work at the Docklands site of the 198 metre tower is expected to start in the last quarter of this year.

It will sit alongside the Phase 1 68-storey Valiant Tower which is nearing completion and the 36-storey Berwick Tower where work is yet to begin.

Once complete, South Quay Plaza will provide over 1,300 homes, with the three towers set within 2.6 acres of public gardens landscaped by HTA Design, alongside varied commercial and retail space that will create a vibrant waterside hub.

Nigel James-Walsh, Project Director at Berkeley Homes South East London added: “We are pleased to be working with Walker Modular at Harcourt Gardens; offsite manufacturing allows our supply chain to deliver completed elements of the project to site faster and safer with less waste than traditional methods of construction.

“This results in programme efficiencies, reduction in volume of deliveries and onsite activities – all which have a positive effect on the environment and the communities we work alongside.”
