It is the first time that a major project has been awarded through the new collaborative multi-project procurement framework agreement being run by the Programme and Project Partners site management team.

The Sellafield site management team consist of a five-strong group of firms delivering the massive clean-up plan spanning the next 18 years.

The PPP partnership is made up of lot partners KBR (integration partner); Jacobs (design and engineering partner); Morgan Sindall Infrastructure (civils construction management partner) and Doosan Babcock (process construction management partner) and Sellafield as the fifth partner.

Final sign-off of the HVAC deal allows Balfour Beatty Kilpatrick to start production, manufacturing, design, installation and testing of a key aspect of the retreatment plant’s main building.

When completed the facility will repackage special nuclear material for long term safe and secure storage.

Richard Milliken, commercial manager for the Sellafield Product and Residue Store Retreatment Plant, said: “This is a key procurement for the Programme and Project Partners as it reflects the essence of the partners model. Collaboration was key.

“For the team it has been a long journey involving development, challenges, input by many and much learning from experience.”
