Latimer, the development arm of Clarion Housing Group, has started the hunt for a builder to deliver phase one of of its 1,400 home Kirkstall Road development to the west of Leeds city centre.

The first phase of the development on the former Yorkshire Chemicals site will involve building a mixed-use project of four blocks providing 623 new homes and associated commercial space.

Latimer is holding out the prospect of sticking with the same builder to deliver the larger phase two works of 814 homes.

The wider Kirkstall Road scheme, previously known as City Reach, will provide one, two and three-bedroom apartments set across 11 blocks ranging from eight to 17 storeys in height.

The homes will feature photovoltaic solar panels and will not use fossil fuels.

There will also be 13 three-bedroom townhouses with private gardens and a dedicated new student accommodation block – featuring 355 rooms for those studying at one of the city’s four universities.

Latimer’s masterplan – designed by architects Broadway Malyan – will deliver a brand-new riverside park, a river crossing and a range of creative and commercial areas to host art, cafes, a food hall, independent shops and public workspaces.

Firms are being given until 14 July to express an interest, with a contractor expected to be selected to start work next spring.
