Network Integrated Control Centre is one of three major buildings planned for the West Midlands site

The project is a key site for HS2 and will see a 30-hectare brownfield site transformed into the nerve centre of the high speed railway line.

A contractor will be selected next Autumn for the job to build a Maintenance Building, Network Integrated Control Centre (NICC) and Cleaners and Drivers Building.

Turkish construction giant Gulermak Agir Sanayi Insaat is battling it out with Vinci/Keltbray; and VolkerFitzpatrick/VolkerRail JVs for the single-stage design and build contract.

Designs for the three separate buildings provide for a high level of controlled, natural lighting to reduce the need for artificial lighting during the daytime.

Solar roof panels, reusing rainwater runoff, sustainable drainage, renewable energy, low carbon materials form part of a package of sustainability measures.

Designs for Washwood Heath go out to public consultation ahead of planning being sought

The designs have been produced by HS2’s Engineering Delivery Partnership (EDP).

The Maintenance Building will be the primary hub of operations within the site, used to maintain the HS2 train fleet along with facilities to store materials and equipment.

The Network Integrated Control Centre will oversee the whole HS2 network and is located centrally within the Washwood Heath depot site. It will include a control room, gym and canteen for over 100 staff.

The Cleaners and Drivers Building in the depot’s western area and will host facilities for the 200-strong train servicing and driver training teams. This building will be linked to the stabling yard area, where trains will be cleaned and replenished
