There are currently 161 projects in the programme, counting the 100 that were announced last year.

More than 1,100 schools have applied for funding from the school rebuilding programme. But around half are unlikely to get funding because the programme has been capped at 500 projects.

The Government said it planned to confirm another set of prioritised schools before the end of this financial year, prioritising up to 300 schools in total in 2022 to 2023.

New education secretary James Cleverly said work will start immediately to deliver the projects ranging from new sports halls, music rooms, science labs and dining areas.
