Modular building giant Algeco – formerly best known as Elliott in the UK – has landed two major MoD contracts.

The deals awarded by the Defence Infrastructure Organisation on behalf of the British Army for supply of high quality modular accommodation have a combined value of £31m.

The £21m Kinloss Barracks in Forres, Scotland, comprises a 112-bedroom Single Living Accommodation (SLA) for soldiers.

There are two SLA blocks to be delivered in 47-weeks using the Algeco modular permanent building system, with work beginning on site in December.  This is followed by the demolition of the existing buildings. All works on site will be completed in an overall period of 65-weeks.

Beacon Barracks Stafford is a £10m contract for supply of a 60-bedroom Single Living Accommodation for soldiers. Work begins on site next month and will be completed on a 46-week schedule, including the demolition of existing buildings.

Algeco will act as principal contractor on both projects, providing a full turnkey solution including demolition of existing buildings.

Modules for the Stafford Barracks will be manufactured in the company’s factory at Carnaby in East Yorkshire, and the modules for Kinloss Barracks at the factory in Inverurie, Scotland.

MOD Kinloss Barracks and MOD Stafford are being designed by AHR Architects.

Robert Vining, DIO’s Deputy Head of Major Programmes and Projects (Army), said: “The new Single Living Accommodation at Stafford and Kinloss will provide high-quality, efficient, purpose-built facilities for our military personnel. I am looking forward to working with Algeco to deliver the first of these fantastic buildings, which will make a real difference to our military colleague’s lives”.

James Withey, Managing Director at Algeco, said: “Our modular solution will create a modern, efficient and fit-for-purpose accommodation facility for the MoD.

“We are confident that we will meet the high sustainability targets and complete the work with minimal disruption to the ongoing operation of the bases.  Our modular offsite solution provides maximum benefit by minimising works required on site.”
