Acquisition-hungry RSK Group has swooped again this time to buy Borders civil engineering contractor RJT Excavations.

Based at Jedburgh in the Scottish Borders, the £30m turnover firm has been a key player in the sector for more than 30 years and operates a fleet of more than 60 pieces of heavy plant.

The business, which employs around 125 staff and made a pre-tax profit of £3m last year, has been acquired from Mancunian Mercantile Investments.

RJT offers a wider range of civil engineering services providing national coverage from its main yard at Jedburgh and regional offices in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Leeds.

It recently commenced the 7.5 km Carlisle Southern Link Road for Galliford Try and also services a number of quarries operated by Tarmac, Breedon and Aggregate Industries on a regular basis to produce quality aggregates with an annual processing capacity of over two million tonnes.

RJT managing director Garry Young (above), who will continue to lead the business, said: “RSK Group brings some excellent synergies across the companies in its portfolio.

“This will provide opportunities to work together with similar companies within the group that have knowledge and experience in areas of construction that we do not currently have in-house.

“This acquisition is an excellent outcome for all RJT employees.”

RSK Group chief executive officer Alan Ryder said: “The acquisition of RJT will prove extremely valuable to the group, enhancing our engineering and infrastructure services across the UK.

“RJT’s team of specialists boasts an impressive skillset, applying its civil engineering, ground modelling, project management and bulk earthworks services to a diverse range of sectors, from roads and water installations to golf courses and landfill sites.”
