The landmark housing-led proposals are set to radically transform the centre around Coventry market, creating a pedestrian-friendly residential, shopping and leisure hub.

Phase 1 includes 991 homes as well as 8,000 sq m of commercial space, all set within 17,000 sq m of public open space.

Phase 2 will provide further commercial space and up to 584 homes.

City Centre South will upgrade several areas such as Bull Yard, Shelton Square, city Arcade and Hertford Street

An archaeological survey is underway to identify any archaeological remains, including the position of the historic City Wall in Shelton Square and Bull Yard.

Demolition is scheduled to start at the end of the summer, with the first homes expected to be completed in early 2027.

Designed by architect Allies & Morrison, the residential buildings range in height from five to 19 storeys with envelopes in seven different brick tones and ribboning brickwork effects.

Andy Street, the Mayor of the West Midlands and Chair of the West Midlands Combined Authority, said: “The go-ahead for the first phase of this exciting scheme is great news for Coventry.

“It will transform a large but outdated part of the city into a vibrant new district for people to live, work and have fun.

“It’s why the WMCA has agreed to invest more than £100m into the project.”
