Architects Carmody Groarke and Sheppard Robson’s winning design will see three clustered blocks of 650-students connected at the lower floors and via garden terraces.

The LSE Bankside Residences Project will be located at the existing Bankside House student accommodation building located behind Tate Modern.

The design team will now fine-tune designs to target Passivhaus certification and LETI standards as well as WELL Standard and BREEAM Outstanding.

Extensive terraced space between the three planned buildings

Julian Robinson, Director of Estates at LSE, said: “This is the first time LSE has run a design competition with development partners and I’m delighted the School’s record of procuring outstanding architecture has been maintained.

“The new Bankside will be an extension of our world class estate and exceptional student experience.”

The buildings will feature large entrance areas

Construction is expected to start on site in 2026, with completion earmarked for 2030, ready for students to move into at the start of the academic year.
