A construction firm featured in a BBC series about young bricklayers has been acquired in a pre-pack deal after parts of the business filed for administration.

Hodgkinson Builders featured in the BBC Three docuseries  Brickies which ran for two seasons from 2022/23 following the lives of young recruits at the Derby-based contractor.

The Enquirer revealed earlier this month that the firm had filed a notice of intention to appoint an administrator at its social housing division.

Now Hodgkinson Builders has confirmed its main brickwork and contracting division has been sold in a pre-pack deal to East Midlands Masonry Limited.

Companies House records show East Midlands Masonry Limited was formed in June 2024 with its main controlling interesting listed as Birmingham based property company Nurton Developments.

Among the directors listed for East Midlands Masonry is Robert Hodgkinson.

The deal includes the sale of all existing brickwork contracts and the new business will operate as East Midlands Masonry Limited, trading as Hodgkinsons.

A company spokesperson said the acquisition “secures jobs for both staff and tradespeople, while preserving key contracts, maintaining customer relationships, and upholding the strong reputation of Hodgkinson Builders’ brickwork division.”

The spokesperson added: “The new business is well-funded and well-equipped to move forward with its workforce, strengthening progression for the future.

“We are delighted to have agreed a deal that will ensure the company becomes stronger and fitter and the jobs of our staff remain fully protected. We are confident that the transition will be seamless.”

Hodgkinsons said it is also currently in negotiations with other interested parties for the potential sale of its social housing division.

The spokesperson added: “With the group’s social housing division potentially entering new ownership in the near future, there is hope for a fresh start, with opportunities for improved efficiencies and renewed growth.”

Latest accounts for Hodgkinson Builders for the year to March 31 2023 show the firm employed 28 people and had £2.9m falling due to trade creditors during the year.
