Haines was recognised for his services to transport and the economy after turning around the infrastructure provider’s performance on major project and infrastructure delivery around, driving a new focus on cost-control.

The other major award was a CBE for Gill Riley, managing director and co-founder of mini crane lifting specialist GGR Group.

Gill Riley co-founded GGR Group in 1995 building it into a £37m turnover business employing 150 staff

This year’s honours list was slim pickings for construction industry figures with only a handful of OBEs awarded across the breadth of the industry.

In the world of engineering, former Arup chairman Alan Benfield was recognised with an OBE, while in architecture Peter Clegg, senior partner at Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios, was also honoured.

In the property sector, Alexander Adam, chair of house builder Springfield Properties, received an OBE for services to construction in Scotland.
