Hyndburn Borough Council has confirmed that Universal will restart construction at Wilson Sports Village in Clayton-le-Moors later this month.

Work on the £12m scheme was about 45% complete when ISG went into administration last September.

Universal has also landed completion works on a £24m leisure centre in Chesterfield which was being built by ISG.

The Wilson Sports Village award has been made by Alliance Leisure, the council’s development partner, under the UK Leisure Framework.

Tom Gardner, Alliance Leisure added: “Despite the challenges faced following ISG’s administration, we have worked diligently with the Council and Universal Group to ensure the scheme restarts promptly.

“We are committed to delivering the scheme to the same high specification and quality originally planned. The state of the art facility will play a pivotal role in improving health and wellbeing across the community, and we look forward to seeing it come to life in 2025.”
