Subcontractors have contacted the Enquirer claiming they are not being paid by the £80m revenue contractor.

Three firms resorted to issuing winding up petitions against Breyer this month alone. Two have been withdrawn following settlements with a third lodged with the court on Friday.

Edward Farren, partner at construction specialist law firm Fenwick Elliott, which submitted two of the petitions for its clients, said: “I can confirm we have been acting for multiple contractors owed large sums, some of which have been paid and sum of which remain outstanding.”

Yesterday staff at the Romford office are understood to have been sent home after subcontractors turned up at the Essex headquarters demanding payments.

It is also understood that staff have been told rival contractors are in talks with the management of Breyer about purchasing parts of the business. The firm presently has around 250 employees operating across its three businesses: Breyer Roofing, Breyer Renew and Breyer Repair.

Payment problems in the supply chain come amid a period of management turmoil for Breyer, which saw both the finance director Jess McCarthy and managing director Daren Moseley leave towards the end of 2024.

The vacancies have been filled by interim finance director John Davies and new managing director Mark Cane.
