ICE Training, the Institution of Civil Engineers’ official training provider, has welcomed the £600m investment package by the government, that aims to train up to 60,000 more skilled construction workers.

In particular, the £80 million capital fund that has been allocated to bespoke training, reflects the growing trend the organisation has seen for tailored sessions and company specific learning outcomes.

Taking place over the next four years, the range of investment measures aims to address the industry’s long-term skills shortage and inspire the next generation of British construction workers including engineers, groundworkers, bricklayers and carpenters.

This is to support the target of building 1.5 million new homes, as well as rebuilding roads, rail and energy infrastructure in the UK. Furthermore, the government will sponsor a new Construction Skills Mission Board to ensure employers can work collaboratively to secure the workforce needed to meet future demand.

“The investment from government is a key milestone for the construction industry and we welcome the announcement,” said Rekha Thawrani, Director of ICE Training. “We believe that the additional £80 million capital fund to support bespoke training is an integral part of the overall investment package.

“In the last few years, we have seen firsthand a marked increase in clients opting for in-house training courses by our specialist tutors, which allows employees and graduates to benefit from organisation-specific learning objectives. As such, we have already increased our capacity to deliver in-house courses based on tailored curriculums, which sit alongside our standard classroom and online options.”

ICE Training, the Institution of Civil Engineers’ official training provider, is a leading supplier of specialist training for civil engineers, project managers and construction professionals. It offers a wide range of flexible, engineering and construction training courses designed to empower new or experienced professionals in the built environment.
