The Phoenix Yard scheme will redevelop a 2.8-acre brownfield site off Coventry Street and Digbeth High Street into 260,000 sq ft of media, education and commercial space alongside 240 new homes.
Designed by architect Allford Hall Monaghan Morris, the plans lodged with Birmingham City Council aim to reflect the site’s industrial heritage while backing Digbeth’s rise as a creative quarter.
The project sits near other big-ticket schemes including the BBC’s new Typhoo Wharf HQ and the £1.9bn Smithfield Market masterplan.
The development is expected to create 200 construction jobs and over 500 full-time equivalent roles on completion.
Hartwell’s group property manager Joanne Churchill said: “Our vision for Phoenix Yard is to create a dynamic mixed-use neighbourhood at the heart of Digbeth.”
The professional team includes Ridge, Cundall, Hoare Lea, Macfarlane + Associates and Newmark.
