The approval follows a public inquiry triggered by National Highways’ Compulsory Purchase Order and Side Roads Order for land needed to push the scheme forward.
A Griffiths Farrans joint venture has been confirmed as main contractor and will now complete final design ahead of early works getting under way once the six-week appeal window closes.
The major upgrade will enlarge both roundabouts, change layouts, and carve a new cut-through across the middle of the islands to keep traffic flowing between the A52’s east–west approaches. The job also includes full signal upgrades and new pedestrian crossings to improve safety.<
The JV has previously completed improvements to four smaller junctions along the corridor at Bingham, Stragglethorpe, Silverdale and Gamston since 2021.
