Wigan-based Ainscough Industrial Group has launched AIG Electrical to deliver industrial electrical services to clients across the country.

The launch adds a sixth brand to the fast-growing turnkey contracting business, which has grown from the original crane hire outfit.

During the last two years turnover has almost doubled from £15m in 2011/12 to £28m in 2013/14 and is set to top £40m this year.

AIG Electrical will offer industrial electrical contracting services including complete factory fit-outs, switchgear and control panel manufacture and installation, production-line installation and upgrades, as well as any testing and maintenance services.

The business is currently fitting out its new 2,500 sq ft premises in Bridgend, South Wales, which will provide a base for mobile teams of engineers.

A second base in the North East is also planned to support delivery of services across the UK.

Heading the business will be new operations director Alun Lane, who has 30 years’ experience as an electrical engineer and has been with AIG for more than 10 years.

The launch follows a restructuring and re-brand last April which saw the business organised into four new brands – AIG Projects, AIG Vanguard, AIG Engineering Services and AIG Offshore Renewables.

A fifth business, AIG Seward Wyon, was later added following the acquisition of a Bath-based engineering and design consultancy.

Together they offer large-scale and complex projects, standard machinery movement and installation, pipework fabrication, wind-power project support and industrial installations respectively.

Matt Ainscough, group managing director at AIG, said: “A dedicated electrical business was a missing piece in the jigsaw for AIG when it comes to industrial re-locations, upgrades and fit-outs.

“The launch of AIG Electrical means we now offer a truly end-to-end turnkey service.

“Up to this point, we have often needed to use external contractors to meet the more complex electrical requirements of projects, but the new business will allow us to carry out every aspect of a job in-house.”
