Bouygues UK, Kier Construction, John Graham Construction, Balfour Beatty Regional Construction, Morgan Sindall and ISG Fit-out have been selected for projects worth over £5m on the university estate upgrade.

The university has also revealed the contractors it will use for smaller projects worth £2-£5m.

This includes local Berkshire builder Francis Construction, alongside Balfour Beatty Regional Construction, ISG Fit-out, Morgan Sindall and Vinci Construction UK.

Over the next 10-15 year the university is planning a £250m programme of capital works. This will principally see academic activities focused onto the Whiteknights campus site.

Presently, the University is planning to remodel a 1970s landmark building to house its new School of Architecture.

The URS Building on the Whiteknights campus, also known as the “Lego Building”, will be converted into an open-plan facility.

As well as the architecture school, it will also house the university’s construction management, art and graphics departments.

Construction is due to begin in January 2017, with completion in December 2018.

Last year the University also committed to developing a new Science and Innovation Park at the heart of the Thames Valley.

The University’s governing body has approved an initial investment of £25m to create the site infrastructure and first three buildings, followed by a further £25m, in time, to complete phase one.
