Smart Helmet brings hi-tech to hard hats

A cross between Google Glass technology and a hard hat will be on show at next month’s Digital Construction Week.

The Smart Helmet from technology specialist Daqri is billed as “the world’s first wearable machine interface”.

It allows 4D data to be directly projected onto an HD hands-free display beneath a protective visor.

Daqri said the system packs “more power than has ever been built into a wearable computer”

It added: “With the True 4D display, your organization can provide intuitive 4D work instructions to your workforce.

“Workers will understand processes quicker, spend less time on each step, and make fewer errors.

“4D work instructions shown step-by-step in the context of the job being done increase efficiency, save money, and provide valuable process improvement analytics.”

Video cameras on the visor also allow workers to capture the site in progress and the Smart Helmet integrates with existing software.

The Smart Helmet is typical of the hi-tech innovations on display at Digital Construction Week.

Show director Oliver Hughes said: “Areas like BIM will still have a big focus at the show but we are all about ways technology can improve the design, construction, engineering and delivery process.

“Visitors will get the chance to see and use all the latest developments which can help boost productivity.”
