Betting Spy: Fans beg not to be backed

Picking a string of losers certainly boosts your “fan mail” if not your bank balance.

Betting Spy has been enjoying some lively reader interaction after another barren week on the winner-backing front.

“Russell Grant got more right than you” was among my favourites this week alongside “you couldn’t tip a waitress”.

But by far the biggest part of the inbox came from West Ham fans begging me not to scupper their great start to the season with the curse of Betting Spy.

Even my own father – a diehard Hammer – threatened to disown me if I tipped them to beat Chelsea this Saturday.

So I just can’t do it.

No matter how insulting the odds of 3/1 are against a side who sit eight places below us in the table and are somehow still rated odds-on shots by the bookies.

So I’ll risk the ire of another two sets of home supporters and put the cursed cash on Stoke to beat Watford and Norwich to beat West Brom.

The Potters look like a side on the up while Watford just can’t seem to put the ball in the back of the net.

Norwich were on the end of a freak beating by Newcastle last week but they have goals in them while West Brom have only scored seven in nine while letting in 11.

The double pays 7/2 which would be a massive boost to our running total.

If it all goes wrong I’ll expect the usual deluge of abuse from the Potteries and Norfolk.
