Betting Spy: Title heaven for Chelsea and hell for Hull

It seems a bit surreal to enter a new season with Leicester City as champions and Sam Allardyce as England manager.

If Conte can focus on the football and give up his other career as a club singer then Chelsea could have a chance
If Conte can focus on the football and give up his other career as a club singer then Chelsea could have a chance

But that really happened and now it’s time to pin Betting Spy‘s colours to the mast with a few long-term tips for the year ahead.

I can’t see another outsider “doing a Leicester”. But the top two in the title betting look awful value.

Man City are 5/2 favourites but they won’t get a penny of my money with a wobbly back four and a keeper in Joe Hart who is no longer head and shoulders above the rest.

Man United sit next at 3/1 mainly thanks to the Mourinho effect.

I’m not sure what that is but at Chelsea it seemed to involve falling out with a team of superstars and dragging them down perilously close to a relegation scrap.

Chelsea are 13/2 with Paddy Power and that looks the value bet to me.

Antonio Conte had a great Euros and looks just the sort of character to get the best out of a squad packed with talent.

Last season’s debacle means Chelsea won’t be distracted by Europe and the signing of Kante from Leicester looks like a very shrewd piece of business.

At the other end of the table Hull look doomed before a ball is kicked and should be backed at 9/4 to finish rock bottom.

Managerless, stricken by injuries and hampered in the transfer market by owners who are looking to sell up is a poisonous cocktail in the Premier League.

Long-term punts are all well and good but we need a little interest in the first round of fixtures to try and get off to a flyer.

Leicester look a good thing away at Hull while Spurs can also win on the road at Everton.

That little double pays 4/1 and would rank as a decent start to what should be a fascinating season.
