Environment Agency names winners of small works framework

The Environment Agency has named the new line-up of firms for its flood and coastal risk management operational framework worth around £160m.

The new hub arrangement will wrap up 30 previous deals and frameworks covering a wide range of services from small-scale civil engineering and maintenance projects to main river maintenance and pest control.

Amalgamated Construction earned a place on the three main regions with Breheny Civil Engineering securing two regions.

The Environment Agency has split the new works programme into four separate Environment Agency operational areas.

Of these, the North Hub framework has the highest spend of more than £70m over four years covering four sub regions: North East, Cumbria and Lancashire, Yorkshire and Greater Manchester, Merseyside and Cheshire. The Central Hub will spend more than £69m spend over the period across Lincolnshire and Northamptonshire, East Midlands, West Midlands and East Anglia.

The SW Hub, which covers Wessex, and Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, is expected to be worth over £16m to selected firms.

North Hub

Small scale civil engineering and maintenance works (Total value: £48m)

Routine maintenance, vegetation management and pest control.

  • North East – Ainsty Timber Marketing (£2.2m)

  • Yorkshire – Land and Water Services; River Stewardship Company (£15m)
  • Greater Manchester, Merseyside and Cheshire – Ground Control; Groundwork MSSTT (£4.8m)

Central Hub

Small scale civil engineering and maintenance works (Total value: £48m)

  • Breheny Civil Engineering; JBA Bentley; Amalgamated Construction; Kingcombe Stonbury

Routine maintenance, vegetation management and pest control.

  • Lincolnshire and Northamptonshire – The CGM Group (East Anglia); Ground Control (£19m)
  • East Midlands – Kingcombe Stonbury; Alliance Contracting (£4.3m)
  • West Midlands – Kingcombe Stonbury; Ainsty Timber Marketing (£2.6m)
  • East Anglia – Ground Control; The CGM Group (East Anglia) (£8m)

SW Hub

Small scale civil engineering and maintenance works (Total value £10m)

  • Amalgamated Construction; Bridge Civil Engineering; Dawnus Construction; Land and Water Services

Routine maintenance, vegetation management and pest control.

  • Wessex – Land and Water Service; Ainsty Timber Marketing (£3.6m)
  • Devon, Cornwall – Cormac Contracting; Glendale Services (£5.5m)

The larger South Eastern hub covering Southern and Thames EA regions will be announced at a later date.
