Main Contractor Torsion Group will deliver both schemes.

The Sheffield city centre scheme will be a 220-bed student accommodation block.

Architects Day Architecture and Structural Engineer Curtains Engineering form part of Torsion’s design team on the project which is due for completion in September 2019.

Torsion CEO, Dan Spencer said: “TDL has secured a pipeline of student schemes in prime locations for the next three to five years, with a total of 1529 purpose built student bedrooms and 529 residential apartments for the private rental market to date.

“Our ability to integrate the construction arm of the group ensures that we can design the schemes to budget at the planning stage, along with the experience within our TDL team ensures cost certainty, and unlocks schemes ensuring they are delivered on time as our 100% track record shows”

In Birmingham Torsion will build a fifteen storey, 290-bed student accommodation scheme which will cantilever approximately 10 metres at the main entrance.

The building has been the subject of detailed design and calculations by Torsion Group’s in-house design department and Structural Engineer Design2e.

Architects Corstorphine and Wright also form part of Torsion’s design team on the Birmingham city centre project and played a significant role in the planning process.

Torsion Managing Director, Gary Walton said: “The successful contract awards follow months of detailed work and discussions to ensure we fully understood our client’s requirements, specification, quality and programme drivers.

“These student accommodation developments add further to our current portfolio and bring a welcome addition of high-quality student living.

“Our schemes for TDL are ideally suited for students attending universities across the Birmingham and Sheffield city regions.”
