The power provider spends around £12m a year on emergency repairs and planned maintenance on the 1,000km network of high voltage cables.
Around 60% of this spend is for civil engineering, the remaining goes on cable related works.
The firm has divided the five-year framework into a series of national and regional lots covering high voltage fluid filled cable related works and only the ground excavation and reinstatement element.
Civil works services are primarily related to breaking ground to access the underground cables, and reinstating the ground after completion.
Excavations are typically between 1-3m deep and about 1m wide for cable trenches and about 3 to 4m wide for joint bays.
