Betting Spy: Man Utd to retain title at 9/5

It’s deja vu time with this year’s tip for the Premiership title as Manchester United look all set for another table-topping performance.

You won’t get rich backing Sir Alex’s men at 9/5 with Paddy Power.

But those returns could look very attractive come May compared to sticking your cash in a savings account or punting on a few favourite shares.

Now I’m not for one minute saying that backing Man Utd is a safer bet than a deposit account or the stock market.

But these are uncertain times as banks go bust and the markets are starting to take on more than a whiff of panic circa 2008.

Among all these wobbles one investment stands out. And that’s to trust Sir Alex to have another successful season and see your cash pile almost treble in just ten months.

They won the league by nine points last time and have strengthened significantly with more new faces set to join.

A frontline of Rooney, Berbatov and Hernandez is full of goals with Ashley Young sure to supply the bullets.

Wesley Sneijder would be a great replacement in the middle for the retired Paul Scholes and the back line still looks the strongest in the league.

Chelsea will fall short again because the ageing squad should have been overhauled years ago while Man City will find it impossible to replace their talisman Carlos Tevez when his agent inevitably moves him on again.

Arsenal look like a side going backwards while Liverpool will be stronger but nowhere near consistent enough to challenge for the major honours.

So it’s Man Utd for me and let’s keep the groundhog day feel going by putting them in a tasty looking double with Barcelona to retain the Champions League.

A repeat of last year’s Premiership/Champions League winners pays nearly 7.5/1 which will be a nice little payoff next Spring.

At the other end of the table i fear things aren’t right at Newcastle and Alan Pardew’s men could be in for a torrid time.

The bookies favour a straight return for the promoted sides so an interest in the Toon Army to hit the trapdoor and occupy one of the relegation slots is a decent bet at 9/2.

Betting Spy will be on hand all season to hopefully point you in the right direction to beat the bookies so here’s to a successful punting season.
