Betting Spy: Van Persie FC to score against Chelsea

Radio phone-ins have been full this week with angry Man Utd fans moaning that Man City are spending too much on players in a bid to win the title.

The calls highlight a chronic lack of self awareness in the red half of the city matched only by their shortage of world class midfielders.

The 6-1 drubbing had Sir Alex looking even angrier than usual and the great man needs to act quickly to prevent a Sky Blue sea change in footballing power.

How he could do with a new Roy Keane to knit a fragile midfield together which needs strengthening or it could sink the Red’s title ambitions.

A failure to land Wesley Sneijder in the summer now looks a big mistake and Man Utd need to break the bank in the next transfer window to land him or someone as high-profile.

City are not the finished article but look irresistible at the moment powered by David Silva in the form of his life.

The only way Man Utd can maintain their place at the top of the pile is to spend big and quickly to make Old Trafford attractive for winners and not just those chasing a major payday.

Presumably those radio callers will go silent if their team splash the cash.

But listening to fans moaning after their first home defeat since April 2010 has been quite entertaining.

They should try supporting West Ham. Their phone bills would be enormous.

While Man City were thrilling the nation the mighty Hammers ground out a 1-0 away win at Brighton which left me with very mixed feelings.

Let’s not beat around the bush, we were poor and Brighton played all the football. And yet our on-loan keeper hardly had a stop to make and it was another vital away win in our promotion push.

But this isn’t the West Ham way. Organised, professional, steely and ruthless aren’t words us Hammers fans recognise. Now where’s that phone I need to join the moaners.

So Man City did us a punting favour last week but Robin Van Persie FC spoiled our double by beating Stoke.

Of course RVP FC are not a one-man team as Arsene Wenger keeps on insisting to whoever is listening.

But the man is on a hot streak so let’s have a go on him to score at anytime against Chelsea at 2/1 with Paddy Power.

Our bet comes in if Van Persie hits the net during the 90 minutes and that looks a decent bet to me.

But don’t forget, if he does strike, it was a team effort.
