Betting Spy: Argies in another goal glut

A heavy wallet can almost dull the pain of a heavy heart when it comes to watching England.

Betting Spy followers will have been as distraught as the rest of the country watching the Premiership’s finest crash-out so meekly.

But at least if you followed our advice a nice 7/4 for Germany to win voucher would have been on-hand to mop-up the tears.

Germany’s victory capped a decent week for Betting Spy after our Uruguay to beat South Korea tip obliged and the Argentina v Mexico game yielded enough goals to make it another 5/2 winner.

Our outright tips Spain are still in there despite not playing to their full potential yet. But we won’t desert them now and they still look a decent price at 3/1 to win outright with David Villa solid at 7/4 to grab the Golden Boot.

Quarter-finals are always a tricky call so the pick-of-the-punts could be relying on our old mates Argentina to be involved in a high-scoring game.

Paddy Power go 9/4 the match will feature more than 3.5 goals and that looks a bet to be on given the attacking nature of both sides coupled with their defensive frailties.

I fear Uruguay could have a bit too much for a Ghana side who struggle to get goals and the south Americans are a decent wager at a general 11/10 to win in 90 minutes.

England have left their mark on the World Cup for all the wrong reasons as the backlash begins against “our boys” who seem over-rated, over paid and back over here too early.

Those dull grey suits summed up the mood of a squad totally bereft of any team spirit.

The players skulked from game-to-game wearing earphones and glum expressions as if actually proving they were decent players on the world stage was an onerous task.

Comparisons with the singing South African squad or the never-say-die Chileans hardly did our pampered “stars” any favours.

The brutal truth is that English players have been selected on name and reputation alone for years.

The “Golden Generation” has failed to shine at every major tournament it has actually qualified for and the country has had enough.

We’ll never fall out of love with football in England, but this current crop make it hard to like the national team.

Here’s to some great matches in the quarter finals played by footballers who actually look like they enjoy the game and aren’t just in it for the money…..
