Trio selected for £135m Meridian Water civils packages

BAM Nuttall, Vinci Construction and VolkerFitzpatrick have been shortlisted as preferred contractors to bid for infrastructure packages at London’s £6bn Meridian Water development.

Enfield Council is planning to build 10,000 homes and create 8.2 hectares of parkland in the Lea Valley over the coming 25 years.

The main project will be the delivery of the central boulevard passing through the whole of the development, stretching from the new Meridian Water Station to Lee Valley Regional,

The work, funded by the Council’s successful £156m Housing Infrastructure Bid to the government, will involve the construction of roads, bridges and flood mitigation measures, as well as electricity, gas, hot water, communications, water and sewage connections and hectares of new parkland.

Up to three contractors will be appointed to carry out the works, with contracts awarded for a four year period.

Enfield took direct control for delivering the 10,000-home scheme when Barratt pulled out of its development partnership over a year ago.

Work continues to gather pace at Meridian Water.

Enfield Council and developer Vistry Partnerships – formerly Galliford Try Partnerships – have signed a development agreement tp deliver 900 new homes at Meridian One.

This will see enabling works on this £250m phase one project start in the next few months.

Planning permission has also been granted to for a major new makerspace hub at Meridian Water to provide affordable workspace.

The decision to grant planning permission for the project means Building BloQs will move into the former vehicle testing building which will be converted to provide more than 30,000 square feet of manufacturing workshop space with capacity for more than 1,000 people at a time.
