The new campus for the independent university will be built in the Embankment area of the city.

Peterborough City Council’s Cabinet has just approved the transfer of land currently owned by the local authority into a joint venture company that will develop the new campus.

The first project will consist of a 60,000 sq ft three-storey building providing a mix of teaching spaces, labs, library and meeting areas with an external car park and associated landscaping.

B&K secured the project with an £18.2m bid for the project, which was designed by MCW Architects and services engineer Moses Cameron Williams

Mace is acting as project manager and cost consultant on the project.

When the university plans to open its doors in 2022, there will initially be 2,000 students.

However, it is hoped that by 2030, the university will have expanded with several other buildings and be able to offer courses for 12,500 students.

Phase two which will follow on shortly will include a £10m commercial research and development expansion.

Phase 3, which will involve investing £85m, will include two further teaching focussed
buildings of 145,000 sq ft, opening in 2025 and 2028.
