Situated approximately 13 miles south of Inverness, this is the most northerly section of the Scottish Government’s £3bn programme to dual the A9 between Perth and Inverness.

The £120m project includes the upgrade of 9.6km of existing A9 single carriageway to dual carriageway standard.

The works will incorporate a new Dalmagarry Bridge over a 670m long section of Dalmagarry Burn.

This will replace an existing structure at this location. In addition, the works will include new bridge structures at the intersections of the new A9 and local roads at Tomatin and Lynebeg as well as a new Moy Rail Bridge over the Highland Main Line Railway.

The existing Moy Rail Bridge, which currently carries the A9 single carriageway over the HML, is to be demolished once the new structure and the associated section of dual carriageway is opened to traffic.

Transport Scotland said that the contract will be awarded in the second half of 2022.

Meanwhile, ground investigation works, which are a key step towards construction, are planned to progress over the coming months, subject to COVID-19 restrictions.

Transport, Infrastructure and Connectivity Michael Matheson said: “Although the design and development process has been somewhat protracted by the impacts of Covid-19, we are continuing to ensure that local communities have their chance to input and to the final design.

“Market consultation is currently underway on the remainder of the programme. We expect this process to conclude in summer 2021.”
