Vital Energi has been awarded the £12m design and build contract for M&E and heating work on the first of seven blocks of Berkeley Homes’ Oval Village development in London.

Oval Village will contain 1,309 new homes across seven buildings alongside leisure facilities and over 15,000 square metres of community, commercial, office and retail space, including an on-site Tesco.

Located next to the Oval international cricket ground, the development also boasts a hectare of landscaped gardens.

Vital Energi will take  the project from the initial RIBA stage 4, through to RIBA stage 5 for the design, install and commissioning on Oval Village block A.

Designs for the temporary energy centre have been completed and work includes the design and build of a buried district heating system and installing the mechanical and electrical infrastructure for 344 apartments which are serviced by five cores and rise to 18 floors.

Rob Callaghan, Managing Director of Vital Energi’s London and South Division, said: “We are proud once again to be working on another design and build project with Berkeley Homes.

“We truly believe in the benefits of good design at the preconstruction stage, and have continued to bolster our in-house design department so we can provide our clients with the whole design and build one stop shop.”

Graham Cook, Project Director at Berkeley Homes, added: “We look forward to working with Vital on this complex first phase of the masterplan. Vital worked hard to secure the tender and have shown pragmatism and innovation in tackling the challenges so far.”

Oval Village block A is due for completion in August 2022.
