Multiplex dominated the January contracts league after confirming its order for the redevelopment of the Elephant & Castle shopping centre site in South London.

The project valued at an estimated £800m got the year off to a flying start and offered a welcome boost after worked stopped on the contractor’s major twin-tower project at the capital’s Nine Elms site amid developer funding issues.

Kier ranked second with a £400n haul of new orders extending the group’s recent tender winning streak after overcoming its financial difficulties of the last two years.

According to data compiled by construction information specialist Barbour ABI., Wates retained its lead at the head of the rolling 12-month league followed by BAM in second place. While Kier’s tally on new work in January lifted it to third position in the annualised ranking.

Among the other big contract wins Bowmer & Kirkland  bagged the £200m  job to build Gary Neville’s St Michael’s Development in Deansgate, with Heyrod Construction taking the foundations package for the first phase of the hotel, flats and office scheme on Bootle Street,

B&K wins first phase office scheme . The second phase of the St Michael’s project will involve building a 41-storey skyscraper with 191 hotel rooms and 181 apartments.

Lendlease’s construction arm got the go-ahead to build the £215m Turing Building (plot S4), part of the new £1.5bn office-led neighbourhood at International Quarter London in Stratford.

The Turing Building is one of four major new office blocks planned for IQL

Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust signed a £169m contract with Kier after getting government backing for its £168.6m scheme to build an Acute Services Block and New Ward Block on the Luton and Dunstable University Hospital site.

Five-storey Acute Services Block and New Ward Block will house modern and enhanced facilities for maternity services
