Global water resort developer Therme Group said it now plans to start work in 2023 on the Therme Manchester complex at TraffordCity.

The project will cost around £250m to build and is being developed by Therme in partnership with Peel L&P.

The updated plan builds upon many elements in the existing consent, with several key design changes to save on construction costs.

The updated plans now include the world’s first living waterslides.

In addition to a ‘next generation’ waterpark, thermal bathing and a wellbeing spa, an immersive digital art, urban farm and botanical gardens are being included in the complex.

New double-curved roofs will help to reduce the amount of steel required, increasing the sustainability of the development.

The new design also includes a green ‘vertical forest’ multi-storey car park to be located at Peel L&P’s Trafford Palazzo.

This MSCP addition removes the need for under-venue parking, cutting the depth of excavation needed, and simplifying the build process.

Therme Manchester will be the UK first wellbeing destination, a second is planned for Glasgow, where Therme last November signed heads of terms for Therme Scotland with Peel L&P, the developer of ‘Glasgow Waters’, on a site adjacent to the Riverside Museum at the intersection of the Kelvin and Clyde rivers.

Other UK developments are planned for London and Wales.
