Local residents are up-in-arms over the site problems which will see the structure torn down and rebuilt after new construction work stopped on the £48m scheme last August.

One told the Enquirer: “We have lived with this on our doorstep for more than two years and now they will have to knock it down and start again.

“I witnessed the panic on site first hand last summer when the team were desperately installing metal supports despite having told us everything was fine.”

Teams of engineers have been examining the site since work stopped with the only option now to tear it down.

A demolition contractor is set to be appointed imminently with work due to start this summer.

A Taylor Wimpey spokesperson said: “Taylor Wimpey and its insurers are continuing a detailed investigation into the precise cause of the structural issue at our development in Monier Road, Hackney Wick.

“Following the discovery of a potential structural issue, identified as part of a routine check during the early stages of construction at our development in Monier Road, Hackney Wick, we have taken the decision to demolish the existing concrete structures and rebuild.”
