Local residents are raging over disruptive demolition work on their doorstep where Taylor Wimpey has started tearing-down a half-built development of 148 flats in east London.

Construction work was halted last year on The Factory scheme in Hackney after “a potential structural issue” was discovered in the concrete frame.

Taylor Wimpey decided to demolish the existing concrete structures and specialist Erith is now on site.

But local residents claim they have not been consulted by the house building giant and now face ten hours a day of deafening demolition work which is making their buildings shake.

One told the Enquirer: “Taylor Wimpey is now demolishing a concrete frame it took two years to put up – so we’re now into our third year of incessant and unbearable noise without a single discussion with Taylor Wimpey or any attempts to help/support the residents whose quality of life they are ruining.

“When the planning permission was given for 90 Monier Road it did not agree to five years of demolish, build, demolish again then rebuild – if that had been the ask then residents would have turned up en-masse to block such a ridiculous request.”

The Enquirer understands that demolition work is set to take 22 weeks to complete.

A Taylor Wimpey spokesperson said: “We apologise to local residents for any disruption caused as a result of the demolition work at our development in Monier Road, Hackney Wick.

“We have a range of mitigation measures in place to help reduce the impact of dust, noise and vibration on local residents. These are actively monitored and reviewed to ensure that all health and safety, and environmental requirements are adhered to.

“We are in regular contact with the council about our works, and we are committed to engaging with local residents to understand their concerns while continuing to provide updates as demolition continues.”
