Five firms have won a place on National Gas Transmission’s asset health framework potentially worth hundreds of millions of pounds over the RIIO T2 and T3 investment programmes.

The five firms selected for the long-term deal are:

  • United Living
  • Morrison Energy Services
  • Murphy
  • Mott MacDonald Bentley
  • Bilfinger

The framework was originally advertised as covering the 10-year period spanning the T2 and T3 spending period with a maximum estimated value of £1.6bn. Since then that sum has been scaled back.

The scope of work will include maintaining pipelines, structural integrity, decommissioning of assets that have reached the end of their useful life and plant and equipment above ground installations such as pressure reduction stations.

As part of the Asset Health Framework, firms will be involved in managing the assets on the National Transmission System through condition monitoring and increased maintenance.

John Farrell, managing director, United Living Infrastructure Services, said: “We are delighted that National Gas Transmission is continuing to work with United Living Infrastructure Services as one of its key construction contractors.

“The Asset Health Framework is a key contract for National Gas Transmission, and we will build on our team of skilled staff to help meet and exceed the growing requirements.

“The UK’s gas network plays a major role in providing energy security for over 23 million homes and thousands of businesses as well as the gas-fired power stations that keep Britain’s lights on.”

National Gas Transmission is the new name for National Grid Gas Transmission, which was changed on 1 February 2023.
