Both teams were bolted-on winners without the influence of Yaya Toure.
City would have been nowhere near winning the league without Toure while a Barcelona side still boasting him in the middle would have been unstoppable in the Champions League.
He was simply immense for City against a vibrant Newcastle who would have beaten the blues last week without the big man’s influence.
But enough ya-booing over Yaya. Let’s find a way to pull a few quid back in the last week of the season.
A lot of the games are cut-and-dried or at prohibitive odds.
So let’s take a chance on Swansea and Liverpool serving-up an end-of-season cracker.
Both sides have little to play for, like going forward and have leaky defences.
That spells goals to me so let’s have a punt on Paddy Power’s 7/4 on four goals or more in total on the match to end our season in style.
I was watching the Europa League final on Wednesday night where a great Atletico Madrid side beat Athletico Bilbao 3-0.
Bilbao boast some of the best young players in Spain but were undone by their more experienced opponents.
The Bilbao players – including Fernando Llorente who will be a major player at Euro 2012 – were in floods of tears at the final whistle.
The Europa League obviously means a lot to some of the most talented young players in a country which is currently World and European champion.
But hang-on, what’s that I hear in Premier League land? Of course it’s another average footballer spouting-off from his overpaid bubble.
Step forward Spurs full back Benoit Assou Ekotto.
The Tottenham stopper is threatening to quit the club if they don’t make the Champions League because “I never wanted to participate in the Europa League, because this competition is useless.”
But if you think Premiership football is rotten – welcome to the world of “heavyweight” boxing.
Promoter Frank Warren claims to have sold 20,000 tickets already for the David Haye versus Dereck Chisora fight.
I love boxing. But this is a new low – a has been against a never was being promoted as “Licensed to Thrill.”
Eh? Surely unlicensed to thrill as the bout is being sanctioned out of that famous boxing hotbed of Luxembourg to get round the uncomfortable fact that both fighters don’t hold UK licences.
Chisora lost his after an unseemly brawl at their last meeting while Haye didn’t renew after confirming his retirement.
To make matters worse, the bout will be held at Upton Park.
Haye is a high-profile Millwall fan so spectators will probably see more action in the stands than the ring.
Talking of West Ham, and I can’t go a column without doing so, congratulations to the players and Sam Allardyce for beating Cardiff so comprehensively.
Next week will feature my tip for the play-off final. It won’t shock you to guess who i’m backing.
