McAlpine finalises rejig with new sector MDs and 40 job cuts

Sir Robert McAlpine has completed its strategic rejig making 40 redundancies and several new industry sector managing director appointments.

The reorganisation has been driven by a switch from a regional to a national sector-based operating model.

None of the roles made redundant are project specific and are spread across the UK operations.

The main board has been expanded with several promotions.

  • Tony Gates, Executive Managing Director – Infrastructure*

Supporting the board are new sector managing director appointments for Healthcare, Commercial Offices and Industrial, as well as heritage and complex schemes delivered by its Major & Special Projects team.

McAlpine will also be targeting growth in the rail, transport and nuclear sectors of its Infrastructure business.

Mark Gibson, former managing director of North and Scotland now leads the Healthcare operation as MD.

While Stuart McArthur will support the push for projects under the ProCure23 framework, and the Government’s  New Hospital Programme as work winning director at Healthcare.

Mark Taylor, previously project director on Phases 3a / 3b at Battersea Power Station, has been appointed managing director for Major Projects, working alongside Mike Coleman, well-known figure in the heritage sector, as sector director for Special Projects.

Returning to Sir Robert McAlpine from the Madison Square Garden Company, Mike O’Donnell becomes managing director of Commercial.

Other key appointments are Simon Richards as sustainability director, Nick Leach as digital construction director and Julie Colbert as design management director.

Driving construction quality, Nicola Markall, becomes technical compliance director, and David Bucksley, health, safety & wellbeing director. Lynda Thwaite, a regular company spokesperson on EDI and social value, sees her responsibilities extended to become brand, communications and proposals director.
