Higgins tops September contracts league ranking

Two big residential project wins took specialist housing contractor Higgins to the top of the September rankings for new orders.

The two estate rebuilds in London swelled the order book by an estimated £250m, involving the Ledbury Estate redevelopment in Southwark and the first phases of the Avondale Estate rebuild in Hillingdon.

Morgan Sindall ranked second with over a dozen wins with the largest being a 225 new homes estate for Kings Lynn & West Norfolk borough council to be delivered by its Lovell housing partnerships business.

Top 10 contractors by work confirmed in September

According to data compiled by Barbour ABI, the total value of awards secured by the 50 most successful contractors totalled £2.56bn, around £800m down on August’s total. This represented 125 projects in number, just four below  the prior month.

In the rolling 12-month league of wins, Mace held top ranking with Bouygue remaining in second place for a third month running, with Morgan Sindall jumped above previously third-placed ISG.

Among the other big wins in September, Vistry is set to build a ‘new village’ project at Top Wighay Farm on the Hucknall and Linby border in Nottinghamshire.

BAM secured a £100m scheme to build a satellite campus for Sheffield Hallam University at developer Argent’s Brent Cross town regeneration scheme.

Local Liverpool contractor Newry Construction also secured a contract to build 330 flats on plot C at Liverpool Waters for client Romal Capital.

R G Group was also confirmed as the builder for developer Olympian Homes’ 45-storey student accommodation scheme in Leeds, claimed to be the tallest PBSA building in the world.
