Among its new orders, Winvic secured a 1.2m sq ft warehouse for Yusen Logistics UK at SEGRO Logistics Park Northampton, marking the first major build at the site. It also clinched three linked residential towers of 10, 12 and 14 storeys for 451 flats at Sweet Street in the Holbeck area of Leeds.

Sisk ranked second in the month after confirming its £340m contract for the new North Stand for Manchester City FC’s Etihad Stadium.

According to data compiled by Barbour ABI, May proved another strong month for orders with the total value of awards secured by the 50 most successful contractors totalling nearly £4.2bn, representing 150 projects, similar to the totals in April.

In the rolling 12-month league of wins, Morgan Sindall continued to rank top well ahead of the chasing pack, which saw Kier return to second place, followed by BAM, Willmott Dixon and Wates.

The strong haul of orders in May for Winvic catapulted it from 24th place in April to 7th in May’s 12-month rolling table.

Among the other big wins, Costain was confirmed for the 13-mile stretch of the A1 between Morpeth and Ellingham in Northumberland, although the firm is still understood to be awaiting a project start date from National Highways.

London contractor Faithdean won a £130m contract for architect Foster & Partners’ deep overhaul of Fenwick department store (above) at New Bond Street in the Capital. The project will add five new upper floors and roof terraces to the 136-year-old building.

Also in London, McAleer & Rushe clinched a £100m deal for developer Dominus’ Citicape House student accommodation scheme at 61-65 Holborn Viaduct in the City.

The upturn in London activity also saw Camden Council pick Mount Anvil as development partner to deliver the next phase of the Bacton Lowe Rise estate regeneration in Gospel Oak.
