Several key players in the successful planning and building of London 2012 Olympic facilities have picked up OBEs in the Queen’s birthday honours.

There was also a more liberal sprinkling of honours for women involved in construction this year.

Olympic aquatics centre architect Zaha Hidid was made a Dame, adding to her CBE.

From the frontline contracting world, Ian Galloway, programme director and chief executive at delivery partner CLM was the highest profile contractor award with an OBE.

Galloway is a former Bechtel man who was previously programme director on the Channel Tunnel Rail Link.

He is joined by Lorraine Baldry, the chair of the Olympic Delivery Authority planning committee; Jerome Frost, head of design and regeneration; and Simon Wright, director of infrastructure and utilities.

Lawrence Waterman, head of health and safety at the ODA, also gets an OBE.
