London Gateway Port has kicked off the hunt for a contractor to build a major new container storage yard at its Berth 5 site in Essex.

The £60m civils and M&E job will deliver 10 new automated stacking crane modules as part of the ongoing expansion of the deep-sea port.

The scope includes a hefty package of heavy-duty pavements, crane rail foundations, container and reefer plinths, drainage, services, substations, and light towers – with civil works designed by the client and electrical elements delivered under a design-and-build deal.

The contract will run for 19 months from December 2025, with bidders facing a two-stage procurement.

Interested firms have until 16 June 2025 to request participation, with 60% of marks weighted on cost and 40% on technical merit.
