Kier lands £139m Severn Trent job as water work ramps up

Kier has bagged a £139m deal to overhaul Severn Trent’s Wanlip Sewage Treatment Works in Leicestershire, marking another major win in the water sector ahead of AMP8.

The upgrade will boost the site’s capacity by nearly a quarter to serve 750,000 people, with tighter environmental standards and better water quality at the heart of the scheme.

Dry weather flow will rise by 24% and full treatment capacity by around 20%.

Work gets underway this summer and will run through to 2028. The scheme follows a successful early contractor involvement phase where Kier led enabling works and design development.

It forms part of Severn Trent’s Green Recovery programme and strengthens a 20-year working relationship with Kier, who will co-locate with delivery partners on-site in a new welfare village.
